Paola Cortellesi - There's still tomorrow

Paola Cortellesi Reflects on Oscar Chances

Culture News

Paola Cortellesi compared her Oscar chances for C’è Ancora Domani (There’s Still Tomorrow) to the survival odds of a cat crossing Rome’s busy ring roads during a Jubilee Holy Year.

The critically acclaimed film has been long-listed for Best Actor, Screenplay, and Director at the 2025 Oscars.

Speaking to ANSA, the actor-director said, “Let’s be clear: in this US championship, the chances of There’s Still Tomorrow entering the top five for the Academy Awards are, I would say, equal to a cat’s survival on a Roman ring road during a Jubilee year. But it is still a satisfaction to be included among films distributed in American theatres.”

Cortellesi also took the opportunity to highlight Italy’s official Oscar entry, Vermiglio, directed by Maura Delpero. “Now, I would say let’s focus on rooting hard for our country’s deserving candidate, the splendid Vermiglio!” she said.

Vermiglio has received widespread acclaim and is now shortlisted for Best International Film at the 2025 Oscars. The film, which explores themes of motherhood and resilience in a small Alpine village, has captivated audiences worldwide. It recently premiered in the US to critical praise, further boosting its chances at securing a nomination.

Cortellesi expressed gratitude to Greenwich Entertainment, the American distributor of C’è Ancora Domani, saying, “I am thankful to Greenwich Entertainment for believing in There’s Still Tomorrow and presenting it among the films eligible for the Oscars.”

With two strong Italian contenders in the mix, hopes remain high for Italy to make its mark at this year’s Academy Awards.
