A man has been arrested in Leicestershire, England in connection with the murder of a woman in Italy.
Leicestershire police reported the arrest of a 74-year-old man in Shepshed on Wednesday evening in connection with the murder of a woman in Abruzzo, Italy. The suspect’s identity was not disclosed, but detectives from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) have been coordinating with Italian authorities and the Foreign Office.
Michele Faiers, aged 66, was discovered deceased in her residence near the town of Casoli, Abruzzo, on Wednesday morning. She had multiple stab wounds. It is believed she died approximately four or five days before her discovery.
Italian authorities had sought international aid when they revealed their pursuit of an individual who they suspected had departed the country right after Ms. Faiers’ death.
DI David Greenhalgh from EMSOU stated, “We are maintaining our collaboration with authorities in both the United Kingdom and Italy regarding this incident.”
“At this time, Ms. Faiers’ family has requested privacy, and we kindly request that their wishes be respected.”
Body found by friend
A concerned friend, who had been unable to contact Faiers for several days, found her lifeless body. The friend gained access to the property as a key was left in the door. Faiers was reportedly discovered in her bedroom. Neighbours reportedly heard the friend’s cries and alerted the police, ChietiToday reported.
According to media reports, Faiers had been residing with Michael Dennis Whitbread near Casoli for around three years. They were described as a “very reserved” couple who enjoyed taking long walks with their dogs.
