British police said on 23rd December that a man arrested for killing an Italian couple living in the UK came from Palermo and has mental health issues. The couple were killed with a hammer.
British police said Friday a man arrested for killing an Italian couple in the UK Thursday was a Palermo man with mental issues. The accused may have been living with one of the victims, and used a hammer to kill them.
The 21-year-old man was arrested in England on Thursday on suspicion of involvement in the deaths of the young couple from Messina. Their bodies were found in North Yorkshire on Wednesday. The suspect, as is usual British police practice, has not been named yet.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Peter Carr, said: “A man and woman have sadly died and a man remains in police custody in connection with the incident”.
The victims
The victims were named as 20-somethings Nino Calabro’ and Francesca Di Dio, from Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto and Montagnareale respectively. They were found dead in a house in Thornaby-on-Tees.
The young man was a croupier at the Grosvenor Casino in Stockton. He had previously worked for a long time in a restaurant in the area; he had lived in England for three years.
Di Dio had joined Calabro’ for Christmas. It is understood they had been engaged since September 2019.
