Arrest of Giacomo Bozzoli

Bozzoli found under his bed

News

Giacomo Bozzoli, who had been on the run in Spain, was found under the bed at his home yesterday. He was sentenced to life in prison for killing his uncle, and is under high security measures due to the risk of self-harm and escape.

Giacomo Bozzoli has been arrested for the murder of his uncle Mario and has been imprisoned in the ‘Cantù Mombello’ prison, in the Brescia region.

Bozzoli had taken refuge in Marbella with his family, abandoning the rented car there at the end of June. Now, several weeks after his disappearance, he has been found hiding in his house in the town of Soiano del Lago.

Finally brought to justice

On 8th October 2015, businessman Mario Bozzoli went to his factory and disappeared. The authorities named his nephew as the main suspect.

The murder was confirmed, but the first hypothesis, that Giacomo had pushed Mario into the oven, was discarded in 2022. The Prosecutor’s Office concluded the relatives had a dispute for economic reasons. After a brawl, Giacomo ordered the body to be burned with Giuseppe Ghirardini, who was found dead six days later.

Nine years later, the police found Giacomo Bozzolila the bed in his room, with a bag of €50,000. Once arrested, he defended his innocence and was transferred to the ‘Cantú Mombello’ prison.

It is not definitively known how he returned to Italy after seemingly parting ways with his partner in Marbella on 30th June, when Antonella returned to Italy with their nine-year-old son. From then until his arrest, Giacomo remained incognito.

Insistence of innocence

After his arrest yesterday, the first person to testify in court was Bozzoli’s romantic partner, Antonella Colossi. She has testified twice in court with two different versions. In both, she has defended her boyfriend’s innocence without relaying Bozzoli’s whereabouts. “I don’t remember” and “I don’t know” are the most repeated expressions by Colossi in court, ‘Il Messaggero’ reported.

At the medical examination, Giacomo Bozzoli appeared nervous and in a state of ‘shock’. The authorities applied a high surveillance regime to prevent any self-harm.
