Abruzzo was the latest region to be hit by destructive wild fires. Beachgoers were evacuated from a beach in Pescara as columns of black smoke rose in the sky.

Abruzzo region in Italy is one of four under the spotlight for a possible move from white to yellow zone as Covid-19 cases rise. Today, 9 passengers on a Malta to Pescara flight tested positive on arrival. As a result, all 70 passengers are now in quarantine.

Italy’s rising infection rate, fuelled by the Delta variant, could see some regions reintroduce measures in the coming weeks. Four of Italy’s 20 regions could move from ‘white zone’ back into a low-moderate risk ‘yellow zone’.
