Air travellers in Italy face disruption on Wednesday, 5 February, due to strikes by baggage handlers at multiple airports, including Rome and Milan.
Two strikes by baggage handlers are planned. The first, a four-hour walkout from midday to 16:00, will involve SEA Prime employees at Milan Linate airport. The second is a 24-hour nationwide strike, called by Flai Trasporti e Servizi and USB Lavoro Privato trade unions, affecting airports across Italy, including Fiumicino and Ciampino in Rome and Linate and Malpensa in Milan.
ITA Airways has cancelled 26 domestic and international flights, including routes to Rome, Milan, London, and Frankfurt.
Italy’s civil aviation authority, ENAC, lists strike details and the legally guaranteed flight slots: 07:00–10:00 and 18:00–21:00. Passengers should check flight status with their airline before heading to the airport.
Further strikes in February include rail and local public transport in Naples, Piedmont, Aosta Valley, and Messina on 9 February, and local public transport in Florence on 14 February.
