Italy’s Marta Maggetti on Saturday won the gold medal in women’s windsurfing in the final race in Marseille. This was Italy’s sixth gold at 2024 Paris Olympics.
Great Britain’s Emma Wilson, who secured a bronze medal in windsurfing on the RS:X board at Tokyo 2020, started strong in the race. However, a risky decision on one of her lines at a mark allowed Italy’s Marta Maggetti and Israel’s Sharon Kantor to gain ground. Maggetti surged ahead to take the lead and maintained her position to secure the gold medal, while Kantor claimed silver and Wilson settled for bronze.
This victory marks a historic moment as Maggetti becomes the first-ever Olympic champion in the iQFoil class, making its debut at the Paris 2024 Games.
Musetti secures tennis bronze medal
Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti has won a bronze medal in the men’s singles, defeating Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime in three sets 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
It is the first Olympic medal for Musetti, who on Sunday is set to join on the podium Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic who are competing for gold.
Errani and Paolini going for gold
Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini are going for a women’s doubles tennis gold later today. They are third on court following the women’s doubles bronze match, and the men’s singles final.
A gold would round off Paolini’s summer. She was runner-up in back-to-back Grand Slams at Roland Garros and Wimbledon.
