Paralympics Update – 35 Medals in total

Paralympics update: Italy is continuing to add to its medal haul. Currently, the tally stands at 35 medals, of which 10 are gold, 8 silver and 17 bronze. Italy is 6th in the table.

Sara Morganti on Tuesday won the bronze medal in the Individual Riding, Grade I, at the Paralympics in Paris. The Italian, on Mariebelle, was preceded by Latvia’s Rihards Snikus, gold, and the American Roxanne Trunnell, silver.

Federico Bicelli got the bronze in the 100 backstroke S7 at the Paris 2024 Paralympics Tuesday a day after winning gold in the 400m freestyle in the same class. The Italian finished with a time of 1.12.23, behind Ukrainians Yurii Shenhur, gold, and Andrii Trusov, silver.

Assunta Legnante on Tuesday won a silver medal in the women’s discus throw F11 at the Paris Paralympics. A 38.01 throw put the Italian in second place, behind China’s Liangmin Zhang (39.08).

Simone Barlaam got the gold and set a world record in the 50 S9 freestyle at the Paralympics in Paris Monday.  The Azzurro set a time of 23″90.

Italy’s Francesca Tarantello, 22, won a silver medal in the women’s Para Triathlon PTVI (athletes with vision impairment, her guide is Silvia Visaggio) at the Paris Paralympics behind Spain’s Susana Rodriguez and ahead of Germany’s Anja Renner. The other Italian athlete, Anna Barbaro, finished in tenth place.

In the wheelchair fencing, the men’s sabre category A bronze went to Italy’s Edoardo Giordan. He beat Ukraine’s Andrii Demchuk 15-7 in the medal match.

Elisabetta Mijno took the bronze medal in the Women’s Individual Recurve Open archery. She beat Selengee Demberel 6-2 in the medal match.

In athletics, Maxcel Amo Manu won silver in the Men’s 100m T64. In the heats, he set a Paralympic record of 10.69seconds. It took Guity Guity of Costa Rica to break that record and take the gold from Manu in the final.

53-year-old cyclist Luca Mazzone came away with a creditable silver medal in the Men’s H2 Individual Time Trials. He finished with a time of 25:18:83 behind Spain’s Garrote Munoz.

Stefano Raimondo has added another gold to his medal haul with a win in the Men’s 100m Butterfly – S10. Finishing in 55.02 seconds, he outswam Ukrain’es Ihor Nimchenko and Australia’s Alex Saffy. Italy’s Riccardo Menciotti finished in 5th.

Carlotta Gilli looks as if she’s going for a second complement of medals with a bronze in the 50m freestyle, and gold in the 200m Individual Medley SM13. The World and Paralympic record holder finished in 2:25.33 ahead of the USA’s Chambers and Ireland’s Ni Riain.
