Italy’s athletes have brought the tally of Paralympic Golds to a fantastic 14 so far. Italy is currently standing 8th in the medal table with a total of 48 medals.
Italy continues to bring home Paralympic Golds thanks to the phenomenal efforts of its athletes. A further four have been added to the tally from cycling, discus, and swimming.
Fabrizio Cornegliana won gold in the Men’s H1 Individual Time Trails (cycling). He finished 20.68 seconds ahead of his nearest rival, taking paralympic gold in 34: 50.45.
Monica Boggioni added gold to her 2 bronzes with an amazing race in the women’s 50m breaststroke SB3. Setting a new Paralympic record of 53.25, Boggioni finished more than 5 seconds ahead of silver placed Brazilian Pereira dos Santos.
Also in the pool, 23-year-old Alberto Amodeo took gold in the 400m freestyle S8. Leading from the 250-metre mark, Amodeo finished in 4:23.23, ahead of Canadian Reid Maxwell.
Today, Oney Tapia claimed a second gold for Italy in the discus throw with gold in the F11 category. Improving on his bronze4 in Tokyo, Tapia threw 41.92 metres.
Silver and Bronze medals
Matteo Betti took silver in the men’s Wheelchair Fencing Category A – foil.
