Italy’s Paralympians have been delivering amazing performances in Paris. Yesterday saw a flurry of medals of all colours, bringing Italy into 5th position in the medal table.
Italy’s Paralympians have been bringing home the medals of all colours and across multiple disciplines. These are the latest medals for the athletes.
Archery
Elisabetta Mijno and Stefano Travisani took Gold in the Mixed Team Recurve Open. They beat the Turkish team 6-2, with Mijno scoring three 10s, and Travisani two.
Powerlifting
Donato Telesca took Bronze in the Men’s Powerlifting, up to 72kg category. His second lift of 213kg clinched the medal. The gold went to American Gustin with a world record lift of 232kg.
Athletics
Martina Caironi took Silver in the women’s Long Jump – T63. Holder of the world and paralympic records for her T63 category, she came second to Australian Vanessa Low (T61) who claimed a World record along with the gold.
Assunta Legante took Gold in the Women’s F12 Shot Put with a throw of 14.54 metres. She added to her silver ion the discus when she threw a season’s best of 38.01.
Table tennis
Matteo Parenzan claimed Gold in the men’s table tennis singles M6. The 21-year-old beat Thai Thainiyom in straight sets 11-6, 11-6, 11-5.
Giada Rossi also won Gold, beating China’s Lin in the women’s singles WS1-2 final. She also had a straight sets win; 11-9, 11-6, 11-8.
Carlotta Ragazzini took the bronze in the women’s WS3 singles, losing to Korea’s Yoon in the semi-final, 3-1 sets.
Road Cycling
Ana Maria Vitelaru took bronze in the women’s H5 Road race with a time of 15:52.27
Mirko Testa also won bronze, with a time of 1:34.36, in the men’s H3 Road race. Fellow Italian Martino Pini came 5th in 1:39.39, whilst Federico Mestroni did not finish.
Swimming
Antonio Fantin had a double medal day with a Gold in the men’s 100m Freestyle – S6. Claiming a Paralympic record of 1:03.67 he finished 2.15 seconds ahead of Brazilian Glock.
However, the Brazilian had his revenge in the 400metre Freestyle – S6, pushing Fantin into silver medal position by 0.44seconds. Fantin finished in 4:49.99, well clear of the third-placed Mexican, who finished in 5:07.00
Simone Barlaam continued to add to his medal collection with Gold in the 100 metre Butterfly – S9. Setting a European Record of 57.99, he finished 2.04 and 3.09 seconds ahead of Aussies Hodge and Bishop respectively. Fellow Italian Federico Morlacchi missed out on the bronze by two-hundredths of a second, finishing in fourth.
Stefano Raimondi is also having a good meet claiming Silver in the 100-metre backstroke – S10, to go with his three individual golds. He finished in 59.29 seconds, just a quarter of second behind Dutchman van de Voort.
Alberto Amodeo added a bronze to the gold he already won, with a good swim in the 100 metre Freestyle – S8 final.
In total, Italy’s Paralympians have won 20 gold, 13 silver and 20 bronze medals in Paris.
