Yesterday, PM Meloni introduced herself as “that bitch” when meeting Campania governor De Luca.
On Tuesday, Premier Giorgia Meloni greeted the Campania Governor with a pointed remark, referencing his previous insult. In February, De Luca had referred to Meloni as a ‘stronza’ (bitch) during a conversation with reporters in the Lower House.
“President De Luca, I’m that bitch Meloni. How are you?” Meloni, head of the right-wing Brothers of Italy (FdI) party, said. The Campania governor is a member of the centre-left opposition Democratic Party (PD). He responded with, “Welcome. I’m in good health.”
This exchange took place during the inauguration of a sports centre in Caivano. The interaction was captured on video and shared on social media by FdI’s party festival, Atreju.
Previously, on 16th February, Meloni had condemned De Luca for leading a protest near parliament with hundreds of southern mayors. The demonstration was against the government’s ‘differentiated autonomy’ plans, which critics believe will exacerbate the north-south divide.
At that time, Meloni suggested that De Luca should focus more on his responsibilities than on protesting.
In response to her criticism, the governor had retorted, “Let her work, the bitch.”
