The much-vaunted, by one of the protagonists at least, Zuckerberg Musk cage fight would become a battle of the minds if the Florence mayor has his way. Zuckerberg says Musk is “not serious” about the fight, whilst the Tesla man reckons it could take place in the Colosseum.
Elon Musk is “not serious” about a mooted cage fight with Mark Zuckerberg, the Meta/Facebook founder said of his touted X (ex-Twitter) and Tesla rival on Sunday night.
“It’s time to move on from this idea,” said the 39-year-old billionaire.
Musk, 52, retorted that Zuckerberg was trying to “chicken out” of the proposed MMA fight. The rivals proposed Italy as a venue. However, the culture minister ruled out the Colosseum in Rome. Other rumoured sites include Pompeii, the Arena in Verona and various Roman gladiatorial former venues across the country.
Battle of minds not physical fight
The mayor of Florence is calling on tech billionaires Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg to swap their cage fight for a battle of wits in the birthplace of the Renaissance.
“Let’s have a match of minds, of intelligence, not a physical, muscular duel,” Mr Nardella said in Sunday’s La Repubblica.
“I am ready to organise a clash of ideas and visions for the future in the Piazza della Signoria…something completely different that brings to mind the 1504 battle between Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo.”

Mr Nardella said holding a tacky gladiator-style event in an ancient Roman site could spread unpleasant cultural stereotypes. It would raise topics like slavery and Roman persecution of the Christians.
