Elon Musk has dismissed rumours of a romantic relationship with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. A photo of the pair went viral, showing them sharing a warm glance.
The billionaire and Italy’s prime minister were photographed at a black-tie event this week, where he presented Meloni with the prestigious Global Citizen Award from the Atlantic Council.
The image, taken at the glamorous gathering in New York, quickly spread online, sparking speculation, with one user jokingly captioning it: “We all know what happened next…”
However, Musk, 53, was quick to address the rumours on X (formerly Twitter), responding: “I was there with my Mom. There is no romantic relationship whatsoever with PM Meloni.”
Reports suggest that Meloni, 47, had specifically asked for Musk to present her with the award at Monday’s event. The two have previously met on multiple occasions, with Musk flying to Italy twice in 2022 – once in June and again in December – to meet the Italian leader.
During the award presentation, Musk praised Meloni, calling her “someone who is even more beautiful inside than outside” and describing her as “authentic, honest, and thoughtful,” according to Politico.
Meloni, who has led Italy since October 2022, returned the admiration, referring to Musk as a “precious genius.”
Meloni’s personal life has also been in the public eye. In 2023, she ended her relationship with long-time partner, TV journalist Andrea Giambruno. The pair share an eight-year-old daughter.
Musk, meanwhile, has had a high-profile personal life, having been married to author Justine Wilson and actress Talulah Riley. He has also been romantically linked to actress Amber Heard and singer Grimes.
