The World Travel Awards announced the winners for this year’s best travel options in Europe. There was a wealth of categories, with Italy registering quite a few winners.
Established in 1993, the World Travel Awards pinpoint the very best tourism experiences on offer, guaranteeing some great tips for your next big trip.

Europe’s Leading Conference Hotel 2021
For the 9th consecutive year, Hilton Molino Stucky Venice has captured the crown of Europe’s Leading Conference Hotel.
Describing itself as “ a Venetian escape”, Hilton Molino Stucky is on the island of Giudecca. With wonderful views across to Venice from the rooftop pool and bar, a shuttle boat will have guests at main attractions within 20 minutes.
Europe’s Leading Eco Resort 2021
Arbatax Park Resort has clinched the crown of Europe’s Leading Eco Resort yet again. Sardinia is home to the world’s only resort within a natural reserve, surrounded by the spectacular sea of Ogliastra.
Arbatax describes itself as “a true oasis where respect for natural cycles, biodiversity, and the soil means nothing goes to waste, but all is transformed and takes on a new life.”
Europe’s Leading Hotel & Spa 2021
Once again on the beautiful island of Sardinia, the Pullman Timi Ama Sardegna spa has won the award for Europe’s Leading Hotel & Spa 2021. Not only that, it also went away with the title of Europe’s Leading Family & Wellness Resort 2021.
Set in an 11-hectare marine reserve, there are outdoor sports, a natural reserve rich in flora and fauna and a raft of family activities for tots to teens.
Europe’s Leading Green Hotel 2021
For an environmentally conscious place to stay, look no further than the Leitlhof Nature Hotel. In the stunning surroundings of the northern Dolomite mountains, the hotel is fully sustainable and climate neutral.
The hotel generates its own power through a combined heat and power plant fed from their sustainable forest. All the food is locally sourced too, including its very own cattle ranch.
Leitlhof Nature Hotel is also nominated for World’s Leading Green Hotel. Those awards will be announced in November.
Europe’s Leading Green Resort 2021
Staying on the green theme, Italy has another winner in the form of Resort Valle dell’Erica Thalasso & Spa.
Sardinia is definitely the place to holiday for a taste of nature, as the resort is et in a private park of 280,000 m2 and surrounded by 1,400 m of unspoilt coastline. Guests are only a few metres from stupendous bays of white sand and rocks.
Europe’s Leading Honeymoon Resort 2021
If your honeymoon requires glamour, sophistication and plush luxurious settings then Villa d’Este on Lake Como is the place for you.
Earning itself the title of Europe’s Leading Honeymoon Resort 2021, this hotel is seriously opulent. Princesses, marquises, sultans and tsars have made this lakeside house their home – now it’s the perfect honeymoon setting.
Europe’s Leading Luxury Beach Resort 2021
Not content with a single award, Forte Village Resort has scooped three. Located – yes, you guessed it – on Sardinia, the resort is also Europe’s Leading Resort 2021 and Europe’s Leading Sports Academy 2021.
The resort is home to 8 luxury hotels, 13 villas and 40 suites with a choice of restaurants including sumptuous buffets, show cooking and fine dining.
Europe’s Leading New Hotel 2021
Italy is paving the way with Palazzo Fuiggi winning the Leading New Hotel award. Less than an hour from Rome, the hotel is in the oxygen-rich landscape of its private 8 hectare park with mineral waters that flow through it.
The hotel’s spa merges traditional holistic therapies with modern medicine to give guests unique wellbeing programmes.
Europe’s Leading Hotel Suite 2021
In the centre of Milan, the Excelsior Hotel Gallia is worthy of this award. Its 53 individually curated suites take inspiration from the fashion and design of Milan. The Atelier Suites are as art galleries with theatrical use of artwork, lighting and colours.
Close to the iconic Milan railway station and the fashion district, these are suites to spend time in.
Europe’s Leading Luxury City Resort 2021
Rome Cavalieri, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel has it all. Incredible views over Rome, conference spaces, beautiful rooms, Rome’s only 3 Michelin Star restaurant, a spa and an ethos of sustainability.
It is also nominated for World’s Leading Green City Resort 2021 and World’s Leading Luxury City Resort 2021.
Europe’s Leading Luxury Wedding Resort 2021
Last, but by no means least, is San Clemente Palace Kempinski Venice. Venice is one of the most romantic cities in the world, and the Kempinski is in a beautiful private island setting. It offers wonderful landscapes, magical views across the waters and an abundance of old world charm.
The hotel is also in the running for World’s Leading Hotel Suite 2021, World’s Leading Luxury Wedding Resort 2021 and World’s Leading Palace Hotel 2021.
