World Nutella® Day is celebrated globally on 5 February, with fans sharing recipes, photos, and videos of the beloved chocolate-hazelnut spread on social media.
This year’s event coincides with Nutella’s 60th anniversary, marking six decades since the Italian brand first appeared on shelves in 1964. Today, Nutella is sold in over 170 countries.
The main event in Italy this year takes place in Rome, where the MAXXI museum is hosting a free exhibition dedicated to the Ferrero brand’s milestone anniversary.
World Nutella® Day was created in 2007 by American blogger and Nutella® enthusiast Sara Rosso. She wanted a dedicated day for fans to celebrate their favourite spread, and the idea quickly gained international popularity. Ferrero later took over the event, ensuring its continued success.

How did Nutella® come about?
Nutella® itself has its roots in post-war Italy. In the 1940s, Pietro Ferrero developed a hazelnut-based paste called Giandujot to combat cocoa shortages. His son, Michele Ferrero, refined the recipe. This led to the creation of Nutella® in 1964. The spread quickly became a household staple.
Fans can take part in World Nutella® Day by sharing their creations on social media. Use the hashtags #WorldNutellaDay and #ShareASmileWithNutella.
