A courier saw a woman bleeding as she called for help from the window of her home in Roncoferraro, Mantua. Her ex-partner had hit her with a hammer on the head about 10 times.
The courier alerted emergency services, and at the hospital, doctors discovered that her ex-partner had hit her with a hammer on the head about ten times, causing severe head injuries.
The woman underwent emergency surgery and remains in critical condition.
The victim, a 38-year-old Moroccan woman, had been living in the Mantua area for some time. She has two children, aged 11 and 9. Carabinieri arrested the attacker, a 40-year-old Moroccan man, for attempted murder.
The assault took place on Monday but was only made public this morning. Before undergoing surgery, the woman confirmed to police that her ex-partner had attacked her.
Investigators inspected the woman’s home and traced the suspect’s movements using surveillance footage and licence plate recognition systems across the province. Witnesses also reported seeing him leave her residence.
The man had a criminal record for domestic violence and assault. Just days ago, the victim had reported him for stalking. He had repeatedly tried to enter her home, prompting her to install an external security camera. He later attempted to destroy the equipment.
Police arrested him at his home in Mantua, where forensic teams found traces of blood. He has been charged with attempted aggravated murder, and his residence has been placed under seizure.
