Three people lost their lives in a traffic accident on the Palermo-Sciacca highway. Three children were seriously injured and rushed to hospital under code red emergency status.
Paramedics, Carabinieri, and firefighters responded to the scene to free the victims from the wreckage. The road has since been closed to traffic.
The traffic accident involved a violent collision between two cars, causing one vehicle to overturn. The children were airlifted by a 118 emergency helicopter to Palermo’s Di Cristina hospital, where they remain in critical condition. Firefighters faced significant challenges in extracting the bodies from the wrecked vehicles.
The accident involved a Mercedes C-Class, carrying a Tunisian family, and a Toyota Rav driven by a Palermo resident. The Mercedes, heading towards Palermo, was carrying a couple, aged 44 and 42, and their three children, aged 4, 6, and 8.
The parents died on impact, while the children were taken to hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Toyota, a 51-year-old man, also died at the scene. The collision occurred at kilometre 13 of the state road.
