The Paris Olympics got underway on Saturday with swimming, fencing, cycling, shooting among the first sports. Italy has five medals to date.
Filippo Ganna won Italy’s first medal at the Paris 2024 Games on Saturday, taking silver in the men’s cycling road race time trial.
The 28-year-old came second in the race won by Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel.
Also on Saturday, Luigi Samele won bronze in the individual men’s sabre fencing.
In the swimming Italy men’s 4x100m freestyle relay team also took bronze.
Shooting medals increase medal haul
Team Italy continued its strong start to the 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday with Federico Nilo Maldini winning the silver medal and Paolo Monna taking bronze in the men’s men’s 10m air pistol shooting.
The gold medal went to China’s Yu Xie.
Schedule for Sunday 28th July
The schedule for today includes equestrian, judo, rowing, tennis, shooting and swimming. Italian players are in action in the tennis.
The Italian team in the Lightweight Men’s Doubles Sculls won their heat comfortably in 6:29.17, and so qualify for the semi-finals.
At 3pm this afternoon, the Italian men’s team take on the USA in Water Polo.
There are big hope for the Italian athletics team, which finished top in the European Athleltics Championship table in June.
