Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove, on loan from Roma, collapsed during Sunday’s Serie A match against Inter Milan. The 22-year-old was rushed to Florence’s Careggi University Hospital, where he was admitted to intensive care and sedated.
A joint statement released by ACF Fiorentina and Careggi University Hospital provided an update on Bove’s condition:
“ACF Fiorentina and the Careggi University Hospital have announced that footballer Edoardo Bove, who was treated on the pitch following a loss of consciousness during the Fiorentina v Inter match, is currently under sedation and is hospitalised in intensive care. The Viola player arrived at the emergency department in stable haemodynamic conditions, and initial cardiological and neurological tests have ruled out acute damage to the central nervous system and the cardio-respiratory system. Bove will be re-evaluated in the next 24 hours.”
Official suspendeded the match following Bove’s collapse. By Monday, sources confirmed the player had been extubated and was awake, lucid, and responding to questions. A further medical bulletin is expected to be released later today.
Who Is Edoardo Bove?
Edoardo Bove, a central midfielder, began his football career with AS Roma, joining their youth academy at the age of 10. The Italian under-21 international made his senior debut for Roma in 2021.
He first appeared in the squad during the Europa League in December 2020 but made his official debut later that season against Crotone. Under manager José Mourinho, Bove gained more first-team opportunities, and he credits the Portuguese coach for shaping his career:
