Prosecutors questioned former Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano for four hours on Monday. They are investigating his complaint against his former lover and ex-consultant, Maria Rosaria Boccia, according to judicial sources.
The inquiry centres on allegations that Boccia, a fashion entrepreneur and influencer, contributed to Sangiuliano’s resignation.
Prosecutors summoned Sangiuliano to clarify details of his complaint, which accuses Boccia of “threatening a political body of the state and aggravated injuries.” Boccia, 41, who hails from Pompeii, claims that her former partner, aged 62, granted her privileged access to confidential plans for the recent G7 Culture Summit held at Pompeii and paid for flights and entertainment using public funds. Sangiuliano has denied these allegations.
Police have seized a pair of smart glasses that Boccia, by her own admission, used to record videos inside the Italian Parliament. This activity led to her ban from Roman public offices.
Roman magistrates are currently analysing evidence, including data from Boccia’s mobile phone and computer.
Italian media reports suggest Boccia made unspecified threats against Sangiuliano and falsely claimed to be pregnant by him. Additionally, gossip outlets have circulated photos showing the former minister with a scratch on his forehead, which is alleged to have been caused by Boccia.
