Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Thursday marked her government’s 1000 days in office, defending its record and highlighting job creation as a key achievement.
Speaking at the national congress of the CISL trade-union confederation, Meloni said the milestone provided a moment to reflect on progress.
“Today it is 1000 days since the government took office,” said Meloni, leader of the right-wing Brothers of Italy (FdI) party. “It seems a little more to me, but it is 1,000. It’s enough time to see the direction taken and the work done. But I know that more needs to be done and done better.”
Meloni pointed to the performance of the Italian labour market as a source of pride for her administration.
“Of these 1,000 days in government, the figure that makes me most proud is that, on average, more than 1,000 new, permanent jobs have been created in each of these 1,000 days, for a total of more than one million,” she said.
She also stressed her government’s commitment to dialogue with Italy’s ‘social partners’, including trade unions and business associations.
“I am also here to show the central role that the government gives to dialogue with the social partners, the workers, while always keeping the general interest as our guiding light,” she said.
