18 films vying to represent Italy at the Oscars

Eighteen Italian films are competing to represent Italy at the Oscars in the International Feature Film Award category.

The films must have been distributed in Italy or another country (excluding the United States and its territories) between 1st November, 2023, and 30th September, 2024.

The Selection Committee, formed by Anica at the request of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, will meet on Tuesday, 24th September, 2024, to vote on the film to represent Italy. The Academy will release the shortlists on 17th December, 2024, with the final nominations announced on 17th January 2025. The Oscars© ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on 2nd March, 2025.

Among the films in competition, *Battlefield* by Gianni Amelio and *Vermiglio* by Maura Delpero were showcased at the 81st Venice Film Festival in 2024, drawing significant attention.
