Today Rome’s Fiumicino airport started offering Vax & Go – vaccinations at the airport. No appointment is necessary and you can get jabbed before you board your flight.

Rome’s Fiumicino airport is offering travellers covid-19 vaccinations, even just before boarding their flights.

Called Vax & Go, the vaccination centre is in Terminal 3 and dedicated to passengers departing, transiting and arriving, according to newspaper Corriere della Sera.

In fact, Vax & Go at the Rome airport doesn’t require an appointment.

Collaboration with Spallanzani hospital

The initiative is the result of a collaboration between Aeroporti di Roma, the Lazio region and Rome’s Spallanzani hospital.

Lazio governor Nicola Zingaretti said on Twitter that Fiumicino was the “first in the world” to offer such a service. He said, “We must take Italy out of the nightmare of covid.”

The vaccines available are Pfizer, Moderna and the single-dose Janssen (Johnson & Johnson).

The Vax & Go service is in addition to the vaccination hub in the airport’s long-term car park. More than a quarter of a million people have received their vaccines there since February, reports the Corriere.

Lazio regional health councillor Alessio D’Amato told news agency ANSA yesterday that 70% of the region’s adult population will have completed the covid vaccination cycle by the first week of August.
