Rome will close half of its Metro A subway line, between Termini and Battistini, from 10th to 25th August for maintenance work. During this period, extra buses will be available to cover the affected metro route.
The city stated the public transport provider ATAC is conducting these works in August when metro demand drops by around 70%. They noted that the complex nature of the maintenance is “not compatible with normal evening closures.”
Currently, the Metro A line closes early for ongoing maintenance, shutting down at 21:00 from Sunday to Thursday. On these days, extra buses replace the metro service after 21:00, while the line stays open until 01:30 on Friday and Saturday nights.
During the Termini-Battistini closure, the other half of the Metro A line, from Termini to Anagnina, will operate as usual. However, Furio Camillo station will be closed for renovations from 19th August to 7th November in preparation for the Jubilee Year.
Additionally, two busy central stations are currently closed for refurbishment: Ottaviano, near the Vatican, is set to reopen on 9th September, while Spagna, at the Spanish Steps, will remain closed until 3rd October.
In a separate project, the city’s tram lines are either fully or partially replaced by buses due to the major redevelopment of the Porta Maggiore tram depot ahead of the Vatican’s Jubilee Year in 2025. From 16th September until 3rd November, Rome’s entire tram network will be served by buses, with normal tram services expected to resume in early December.
