Travellers and commuters in Italy face significant disruption throughout October. This is due to a series of planned travel strikes affecting air, trains, and local public transport.
A number of travel strikes are planned for October in Italy, disrupting all forms of transport. This follows on from today’s rail disruption due to a blackout at Rome’s main stations.
5th October: Local Public Transport Strikes
A national eight-hour strike will disrupt local bus, subway, and tram services across various cities, including Rome. The strike schedule will differ by location. In Rome, services will be affected between 08.30 and 17.00, then again from 20.00 until the end of the day. In Milan, disruptions are expected from 08.45 to 15.00, and from 18.00 until the end of service, according to ATM.
11th October: Air Traffic Controllers’ Strike in Bari, Brindisi, Milan, and Palermo
Air traffic control staff from ENAV at Palermo airport will stage a four-hour strike from 13.00 to 17.00, with disruptions expected. Techno Sky employees, responsible for maintaining air traffic control systems, are also planning to strike in Milan Linate, Bari, and Brindisi airports during the same period. Italy’s civil aviation authority, ENAC, will provide updates on guaranteed flights closer to the strike.
12th-13th October: Rail Strike
Train services across Italy will be affected by a 24-hour strike from 21.00 on Saturday, 12th October, to 21.00 on Sunday, 13th October. Both regional and long-distance routes operated by Trenitalia and Italo are likely to be impacted. As this strike falls over the weekend, there will be no guaranteed train services during rush-hour periods.
18th October: Automotive Workers and Public Transport Strike
Local public transport services will face another round of disruptions on 18th October due to a 24-hour strike, with schedules varying by city. In addition, workers from the Stellantis group and the broader automotive sector will strike for eight hours, with a major demonstration planned in Rome.
27th October: EasyJet Strike
EasyJet pilots will hold a four-hour strike on Sunday, 27th October, from 13.00 to 17.00. Passengers are advised to check the airline’s website for potential flight delays or cancellations.
