Digital Green Certificate launched in Italy ahead of EU

Italy launches Digital Green Certificate

Coronavirus News Travel & Tourism

Premier Draghi signs a new decree launching the digital green certificate website. The ‘Green Pass’ will allow people who have been vaccinated, tested negative or recovered from covid-19 to travel more freely.

The Certificazione Verde website lets Italian residents request the Green Pass which is available in English, French and German, as well as Italian.

The form is available in digital or paper versions. It is completely free and contains a scannable QR code.

What you need to claim the Green Pass

The Green pass is available to anyone who has:

  • a covid-19 vaccination certification,
  • details showing recovery from covid-19, or
  • a recent test with negative results.

Green Pass certificates relating to vaccinations carried out to date are available from 28 June. If you have had your vaccination, you will receive an email or text message giving access to download the form onto a PC, tablet or smartphone.

You can also get the digital certificate via the online health system of your region (Fascicolo Sanitario Elettronico); SPID, the digital identity system with access to public administration services; or via the Immuni contact-tracing app.

Your doctor or pharmacy can provide a paper version through your tessera sanitaria health card.

Italy’s version released ahead of EU’s

Italy’s Green Pass is available earlier than the EU Digital COVID Certificate (EUDCC). The latter will allow free travel across the European Union from 1 July.

However, the Green Pass website warns the “certificate is not a travel document.” As always, people should check the travel requirements of the country they wish to visit. The Viaggiare Sicuri website gives information for those travelling from Italy.

The Certificazione Verde website also contains detailed information on how to obtain the Green Pass. If you need further information, you can call the help centre on tel. 800 91 24 91 (open daily 08.00-20.00) or email address cittadini@dgc.gov.it.

All official information relating to the covid-19 situation in Italy is available on the health ministry website.
