The small town of Somaglia, in Lodi province, is celebrating after selling the winning ticket for the 2024 Italian Lottery’s top prize.
The €5 million jackpot went to ticket T 173756, sold in the Lombardy town of fewer than 4,000 residents. For the second consecutive year, Lombardy has proven to be Italy’s luckiest region, following last year’s win in Milan.
This year’s second prize of €2.5 million was won in Pesaro (ticket T 378442), while Palermo claimed the third prize of €2 million (ticket G 330068). The fourth prize of €1.5 million went to Turin (ticket G 173817), and Dolo in Venice province won the fifth prize of €1 million (ticket S 185025).
The search is on for the winner of the €5 million jackpot, revealed during Rai1’s show Affari Tuoi. The prize may have gone to a local, a tourist, or a commuter, as Somaglia’s location along the Autostrada del Sole makes its service station a popular “lucky spot” for ticket buyers.
Lombardy Overtakes Campania in Lottery Rankings
With this year’s €5 million win, Lombardy moves into second place among Italy’s luckiest regions, having secured five jackpots since 2000. Campania falls to third place, while Lazio remains the leader with eight top-prize wins.
A total of 280 prizes were awarded this year, including 50 new third-category prizes worth €50,000 each. Other prizes included 25 prizes of €100,000 and 200 prizes of €20,000.
Ticket sales for the 2024 Italian Lottery rose to 8.6 million, a 29% increase from the 6.7 million sold last year. Lazio led sales, followed by Lombardy and Campania. Online sales also soared, increasing by 45% compared to 2023.
Unclaimed Prizes and Historic Records
Winners have six months from the publication of the winning ticket list to claim their prizes. Since 2002, approximately €31 million in prizes have gone unclaimed, including a €5 million jackpot in Rome in 2008. That year, the Customs and Monopolies Agency reallocated the unclaimed prize by offering two €5 million jackpots the following year.
