The Ambassador of Italy in London, Inigo Lambertini, awarded the honour of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic to Sir David Attenborough.
Considered a pioneer of nature documentary filmmaking, Attenborough is among the world’s most respected science communicators.
An honorary member of the Royal Society and the Zoological Society of London, in 2016 he gave a lecture during the Diamond Jubilee celebration of Queen Elizabeth II.
Attenborough is 98 years old and earlier this year completed his latest documentary series, Mammals.
When he attended Wimbledon on 1st July, he received a standing ovation from the crowd. A much-beloved presenter and environmentalist.
A special emotion to have handed over the #OMRI Commendation to Sir David Attenborough today on behalf of the PdR: a living legend of world-class scientific dissemination of the highest level, a brilliant 98-year-old young man who continues to fascinate us. Thank you, Sir David.
