An Italian priest has been given a rap on the knuckles for celebrating Mass in his cyclist’s gear during an amateur cycling tour. His aim was to raise awareness for peace in the world in Sicily.
A bishop rounded on his Italian priest for holding mass in his cyclist’s gear, under a tree in Mazara del Vallo whilst draped in an LGBT scarf.
The offending priest, Don Fabio Corazzina of Fiumicello near Brescia, posted a video of himself leading the service in his cycling kit during the recent tour.
His bishop Msgr Pierantonio Tremolada called on him to “make penance” for his act and the allegedly contentious sermon he gave.
Some of Father Corazzina’s parishioners defended him to local media, saying he had shown worship was possible in all contexts and places. However, others criticised him, agreeing with the bishop that he had brought the Church into disrespect.
Recently, another Italian priest, Don Mattia Bernasconi from Milan, got into hot water by saying Mass on a li-lo off Crotone in Calabria. He had planned to celebrate the service on the beach but it was too hot, so he took to the water.
