Sanremo winner Angelina Mango, Donald Trump, and Israel were Italy’s top Google searches in 2024, the search engine reported.

The year’s top trends included the deaths of Sandra Milo, Totò Schillaci, and Alain Delon, along with artistic gymnastics and the Paralympic Games. Italians also searched for the meanings of terms like “dissing,” “intersex,” and the pro-Palestinian slogan “stop the genocide.”

Mango led the personalities list, followed by Kate Middleton, who drew attention after her cancer diagnosis and public return. Jasmine Paolini, the first Italian to reach the Wimbledon final, ranked third.

Donald Trump, who shocked the world with his US election win, also featured prominently, alongside intersex Algerian boxer Imane Khelif.

Google searches reflected strong interest in public figures who passed away, including Milo, Schillaci, Gigi Riva, Delon, journalist Franco Di Mare, and TV host Luca Giurato. Even One Direction’s Liam Payne appeared on the list.

Among frequently asked questions, users searched “Why is Iran attacking Israel?” and “Why is Israel attacking Lebanon?”

The “What does it mean?” category saw “All eyes on Rafah” leading, a pro-Palestinian slogan popular on social media. Other top terms included “intersex,” “stop the genocide,” and “dissing,” a term for exchanging rap insults, which surged after Fedez’s clash with Tony Effe.

In climate-related searches, Italians focused on storm alerts and excessive heat, reflecting growing concern over the climate crisis.
