Google Searches 2023 – how popular was Italy and its culture?

Google released their 2023 popular searches yesterday (20th December) and in the main categories, Italy was surprisingly absent. Just how popular was Italy in the global Google searches 2023?

The top categories in which Italy or its culture appeared in the Google searches 2023 were:

In fifth place in the recipe search was pasta e fagioli, aka pasta and beans.

Pasta and beans is a hot and substantial first course, a great classic of Italian cuisine which has its roots in the peasant tradition. Its popularity is widespread, especially in southern Italy and in particular in Naples, where it is called ‘Past e Fasul’ .

The peculiarity is that the pasta (mixed or tubes) is cooked together with the beans, previously stewed with tomato, garlic, oil and fresh parsley.

Villa Borghese gardens

For top parks, Villa Borghese came in as number 5 in the Google searches 2023.

Villa Borghese stands out as Rome’s foremost and most beloved park, often referred to as the city’s green oasis. Nestled on the Pincian Hill, in proximity to the Spanish Steps and Piazza del Popolo, the enchanting Villa Borghese Gardens sprawl across an expansive 80 hectares.

Established in 1606 by Cardinal Scipione Borghese, these gardens were born out of the cardinal’s vision to transform his erstwhile vineyard into the grandest and most expansive green space in Rome.
