Picasso painting discovered on Capri authenticated

An alleged Pablo Picasso painting, discovered in a villa on the island of Capri 50 years ago, has now been confirmed as an authentic work, according to a report by Il Giorno on Monday.

The Picasso painting, titled Buste de Femme Dora Maar after his long-time muse, was found in the 1970s by a junk-shop owner who had unwittingly kept it in his family’s possession for decades, hanging it in their living room.

A “complex graphological examination has now confirmed that the work is by the genius of Málaga,” Il Giorno stated. “The signature ‘Picasso’ on the front of the original Buste de Femme, a portrait of Dora Maar, is autographed and attributable to the hand of the master, with no evidence suggesting it is a forgery.”

The findings were presented to Luca Gentile Canal Mercante, honorary president of the Arcadia Foundation, and “a researcher of hidden treasures” who has taken on the task of solving the mystery surrounding the artwork.

The discovery is a significant revelation in the art world, shedding light on yet another piece by one of the most celebrated painters of the 20th century.
