17-year-old arrested over murder of family

By Region News North-west Italy

A 17-year-old has been arrested after confessing late Sunday to allegedly killing his parents and 12-year-old brother at their home in Paderno Dugnano, near Milan.

The teenager was detained following an all-day questioning by investigators led by Milan juvenile prosecutor Sabrina Taranto.

Judicial sources stated that there is no clear motive for the triple homicide. “It will take a long time to understand the reasons behind such an atrocious act,” they remarked. Investigators had already suspected that no one outside the family was involved in the murders, which are believed to have occurred around 1 a.m.

The 17-year-old initially claimed he had killed his father in self-defence after his father had fatally stabbed his mother and brother. However, he later changed his story and confessed to allegedly killing all three family members. According to his original account, he was woken by his mother and brother’s screams and entered his sibling’s room, where he found his father standing with a knife beside the bodies of his mother and brother.

Earlier on Sunday morning, the teenager called the 112 emergency service, stating that he had killed his father after the man had murdered his mother and 12-year-old brother.

After further investigation, the 17-year-old was arrested by the authorities.

Father celebrated birthday hours earlier

On Saturday, the father, Fabio Chiarioni, had celebrated his 51st birthday with his family. The victims were well-known and well-liked in the community. Fabio, a builder, had inherited his business from his father, who had constructed the complex where they lived. His wife, Daniela, who owned a lingerie shop in Cinisello Balsamo, was also fondly remembered, particularly for her appearance on the television show “Caduta libera” in 2016. The two children were students at local schools: Lorenzo was preparing to start the eighth grade, while his older brother was about to begin his final year of high school.

“A normal family, like so many others,” neighbours repeated.

Until the shocking events unfolded, the 17-year-old had been described as a quiet, studious, and athletic teenager, according to Rai News.

The mayor of Paderno, Anna Varisco, expressed her sorrow on behalf of the local administration and announced a day of mourning for the victims’ funeral. “It is a tragedy that has left us all stunned,” she said. She added the family had never been monitored by social services and had shown no signs of any issues.
