Maurizio Costanzo was an iconic figure in Italian television and journalism. Born on 28th August 1938 in Rome, Costanzo became a household name thanks to his long-running talk show, Maurizio Costanzo Show.
The Maurizio Costanzo Show first aired in 1982 and quickly established itself as a staple of Italian television. With its wide-ranging discussions and celebrity interviews, it became the longest-running talk show in Italy, a testament to Costanzo’s enduring appeal.
Costanzo’s career began in journalism. He started as a reporter for Paese Sera, a prominent Italian newspaper, where he quickly gained a reputation for his sharp writing and keen insight. In 1966, he co-wrote the song Se telefonando with Ennio Morricone, which became a hit for singer Mina. This collaboration showed his versatility and marked his first major foray into entertainment.
In the 1970s, Costanzo transitioned to television. He initially worked behind the scenes, creating and writing for various shows. His big break came with the launch of Bontà loro in 1976, a talk show that pioneered the genre in Italy. However, it was the Maurizio Costanzo Show that truly cemented his place in Italian media history.
