Italy’s Civil Protection Department has issued an updated storm warning for central and northern regions, with adverse weather expected from the early hours of Saturday, July 26.
The storm warning follows the continued influence of an Atlantic-origin low-pressure system over the country, which is bringing humid and unstable southwesterly winds at high altitude. This weather pattern is causing widespread showers and thunderstorms, particularly affecting Adriatic-facing areas.
According to the latest forecasts, scattered thunderstorms are expected across Emilia-Romagna, Veneto, and Friuli Venezia Giulia, and will later extend to eastern Liguria, eastern Marche, and eastern Umbria.
The storms may be intense in some areas and are expected to bring:
- Heavy downpours
- Frequent lightning
- Localized hail
- Strong gusts of wind
In response, a yellow weather alert has been issued for Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, and parts of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lombardy, Liguria, Marche, and Umbria. Local authorities have been advised to activate their civil protection systems and monitor conditions closely.
