Fourth Serie A Title for Napoli

Scott McTominay scored a stunning scissor-kick volley to help Napoli win their fourth Serie A title on a night of high drama and emotion in Naples. Napoli needed victory against Cagliari to stay ahead of Inter Milan, who were beating Como 2-0.

With tension high, McTominay struck a spectacular opener, meeting Matteo Politano’s cross with a perfectly-timed acrobatic finish.

Romelu Lukaku later powered in a second to secure the 2-0 win and send the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona into raptures. The final whistle sparked wild celebrations, both in the stadium and across the city.

McTominay – now a Naples ‘hero’

McTominay, who joined from Manchester United for £25.7 million last August, finished the season with 12 goals and four assists. He was named Serie A Player of the Season moments after the match concluded.

“It happened again, and it’s something wonderful,” said Napoli boss Antonio Conte, who lifted the trophy despite watching from the stands due to suspension. “Coming here after a 10th-place finish and turning things around; this was the toughest challenge of my career.”

Conte has now won Serie A with three different clubs: Juventus, Inter, and Napoli. His players threw him into the air in celebration.

The game had started with early Napoli chances for Giacomo Raspadori, Billy Gilmour and Amir Rrahmani. But McTominay’s brilliant goal calmed nerves, with fireworks and smoke filling the stadium.

Lukaku’s goal in the 51st minute came after he muscled past two defenders before calmly finishing. The Belgian was booked for removing his shirt but celebrated with passion.

Napoli fans had gathered in huge numbers, including tens of thousands in the city centre. The atmosphere remained electric throughout, especially after the final whistle and trophy presentation.

McTominay and Gilmour became the first Scots in 120 years to win Serie A, joining Jack Diment and James Squair, who won the league with Juventus in 1905.

Inter now turn their focus to the Champions League final against PSG in Munich on 31 May. For Napoli, the night belonged to their players, their fans, and a title-winning goal that will live long in memory.
