Finance police have seized an additional €100,000, allegedly stemming from bribes, from the home of former Sogei general manager Paolino Iorio, investigative sources said on Friday.
Iorio admitted to keeping the money at home after his arrest on Monday night on corruption charges. The former Sogei General Manager was allegedly paid €15,000 by a manager in relation to a contract, the sources added.
Rome prosecutors have requested Iorio be moved from house arrest to prison, accusing him of deleting security camera footage from the last 15 days. Iorio was arrested alongside a manager who allegedly paid him the bribe. The investigation, coordinated by Rome prosecutors, focuses on corruption and auction rigging related to public contracts involving Sogei and the defence and interior ministries.
During a large search operation on Tuesday, finance police searched 18 individuals under investigation regarding Sogei’s tenders and those from the defence and interior ministries. Investigators reported discovering “a huge quantity of documents and data.”
Among the managers under investigation is Andrea Stroppa, 30, described as Elon Musk’s “contact in Italy,” investigators said.
