Forty-five seaside resorts this year received the Five Sails award from Legambiente and the Italian Touring Club. Sardinia topped the awards with 6 districts receiving the award.
According to Legambiente and the Italian Touring Club, the waters are most beautiful in Sardinia which topped the rankings with 6 Cinque Vele (Five Sails) districts. Following were Tuscany and Puglia with 3, then Campania and Sicily with 2. Trentino-Alto Adige is award-winning for lake tourism, but the top of the lakes is Veneto.
The Cinque Vele locations, the organisers explained, represent the best administrative practices and demonstrate a new way of tourism, focusing on the environment and inclusiveness. In Puglia at the top of the ranking are the Tremiti islands, the area of the Ionian High Salento and that of the Adriatic High Salento.
“The new edition of our guide”, commented Stefano Ciafani, national president of Legambiente, presenting the initiative in Capri, “tells of the synergy that has been established between good local administrations and that healthy part of the entrepreneurship of the seaside world; capable of managing beaches at their best, with less concrete and excellent environmental performance. The Cinque Vele resorts that we are awarding today represent the best administrative practices and demonstrate that a new way of doing tourism is possible.”
