Fair and fast justice is a priority for the government, Premier Giorgia Meloni and Justice Minister Carlo Nordio said today. They met to discuss his proposed reforms of the justice and wiretapping systems.
Nordio has said the government is determined to make the regulations for the use of wiretaps by examining magistrates stricter. The purpose is to protect the reputations of innocent people from being damaged by recordings of private conversations which then appear in the press.
He also wants to press ahead with plans to make the career paths of judges and prosecutors separate.
Italy has often been criticised by the EU for its slow legal system.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni met this afternoon at the premier’s office at Palazzo Chigi with Nordio to discuss the forthcoming justice measures, the office announced.
“Giving citizens fair and fast justice is a top priority of this government and a commitment we have made to the Italians. We are determined to keep it as soon as possible,” said Meloni, according to the statement.
