Cristian Ghilli shot himself in a hunting accident near Pisa. He died on Thursday evening in a Tuscan hospital.
Cristian Ghilli was hunting with friends at Montecatini Val di Cecina, in Pisa province, when he accidentally shot himself. As he bent over to pick up spent cartridges, he shot himself in the stomach.
Despite undergoing emergency surgery, Ghilli died around 10pm in hospital at Cecina in Tuscany.
Hunting with friends
Cristian Ghilli had been hunting with friends in the woods when he accidentally shot himself. His friends called emergency services and ambulances arrived to rush him to the hospital.
He underwent surgery upon arrival, but doctors were unable to save him.
The president of the Italian Shooting Federation, Luciano Rossi, said, “Last October the young skeet player was crowned World Champion in teams and in the Mixed Team, accompanying the gold with a third individual place in the World Cup in Lima, Peru.
“With respect, silence, condolences in the face of a tragedy that leaves everyone upset. May the earth be light to you, Cristian.”
