A fire broke out in the engine room of a ferry departing from the port of Piombino in Livorno, bound for the island of Elba. The ship is currently being evacuated.

Eleonora Fonseca Pimentel, born in Rome in 1752, was an exceptional figure in the history of Italy, whose life intertwined poetry, intellectual rigour, and revolutionary fervour. As one of the most prominent women of her time, she played a crucial role in the short-lived Neapolitan Republic of 1799. She was hanged on 20th August, 1799.

The magistrates’ union ANM stated on Monday, the Prime Minister’s comments that the judiciary is behind claims against her sister Arianna Meloni, are “yet another attack on the judiciary, aimed at delegitimising it by suggesting alleged plots.”

One man has died, and six people are missing after a luxury yacht sank in severe weather off the coast of Sicily. The 56-meter British-flagged yacht, Bayesian, was carrying 22 people, 12 passengers and 10 crew, when a powerful storm, which generated waterspouts, struck early Monday morning.

The UAE extradited Rome entrepreneur Danilo Coppola to Italy on Sunday. Coppola received a sentence of seven years in prison for bankruptcy fraud in 2022. He arrived on a flight from Abu Dhabi.
