Carabinieri charge suspects from Avellino province over October 2025 car bombing at house of Report presenter Ranucci.

Carabinieri police said Tuesday that they have arrested four people for allegedly carrying out a bomb attack at the home of Rai investigative reporter Sigfrido Ranucci last year.

The bomb was detonated in front of the gate to the journalist’s home in Pomezia, near Rome, on October 16, 2025, destroying two cars parked on the street, his and his daughter’s, and damaging a wall.

The charges

The suspects have been charged with criminal damage and possession of explosives, with the use of mafia-style methods an aggravating factor. Investigators are also at work on the identity of those who ordered the attack.

The four suspects all reside in the southern province of Avellino and include a woman. Investigators think the group were commissioned to do the job and paid several thousand euros to carry it out.

Ranucci presents Report, a hard-hitting show on state broadcaster Rai that focuses on alleged crime and corruption. He already had a security detail due to threats before the bombing.

“Now we’re waiting to see how things unfold,” Ranucci said on Tuesday. “I wanted to personally thank the Carabinieri’s investigative unit and (Prosecutor) Carlo Villani, who had promised me he would wrap up the investigation and kept his word. Now we’ll need to get to the bottom of the details of this whole affair and determine if there are other layers to it.”

Alfredo Mantovano, the cabinet secretary with the national security brief, said: “The hope is that after (arresting) the alleged perpetrators, a step will also be taken against the instigators. Everything that goes against the safety of citizens, in particular the safety of those who carry out activities of information, must be uncovered in the most complete way, without leaving any grey areas.”
