Abruzzo Airport is cementing its status as a primary gateway to Central Italy, reporting a massive 65.8% increase in passenger traffic for the first four months of 2026.
From January to the end of April, the airport registered 359,340 passengers, a significant jump from the 216,701 recorded during the same period last year. This unprecedented growth suggests that the “Green Region of Europe” is becoming an increasingly popular destination for international travelers.
The surge is so pronounced that April’s figures have already surpassed the traffic seen in June of last year, typically a peak month for the summer seasonal schedule.
Giorgio Fraccastoro, President of Saga (the airport management company) noted, “Passenger growth is steadily increasing and is setting new records month after month. We are not stopping… Abruzzo Airport is a gateway to the world, but above all to our region.”
Strategic Expansion
The “summer season” officially launched in April, but the airport is expected to reach full operational capacity in June. The upcoming schedule will feature 24 weekly flights, 22 distinct destinations and record-breaking frequencies for both domestic and international routes.
The President of the Abruzzo Region, Marco Marsilio, attributed these figures to a long-term regional strategy aimed at transforming Pescara into a central hub for the Adriatic coast.
“Passenger growth of over 65% in the first four months is no coincidence,” Marsilio commented. “It is the result of targeted investments, careful planning, and the ability to attract new routes and airlines.”
Marsilio emphasised that the growth is largely driven by international arrivals, showing that Abruzzo’s natural landscapes, cultural sites, and world-renowned food and wine heritage are gaining significant recognition on the global stage.
