Police have found the body of Miriam Oliviero, a 24-year-old from Monteroni d’Arbia, on a rooftop near Siena’s Torre del Mangia.

Carabinieri and firefighters discovered her on Friday morning close to Piazza del Campo, ending a four-day search. Oliviero had been missing since Tuesday, when she last spoke to her mother.

Investigators traced her phone to the Piazza del Campo area, prompting searches around the medieval tower and nearby rooftops. The Torre del Mangia was closed temporarily as recovery teams worked at the site.

Oliviero, who worked at the Monteroni d’Arbia municipal library, failed to appear for her afternoon shift on 28 October. Her disappearance alarmed colleagues and family, who described her as reliable and responsible.

Investigation Underway

Authorities have not confirmed the cause of death. Sources say a voluntary act is among the possibilities under review. An autopsy and forensic tests are being carried out to establish how she died and when.

Police are also examining security footage and mobile phone data to reconstruct her final movements.

The mayor of Monteroni d’Arbia ordered flags flown at half-mast and closed the town library in mourning. Residents expressed deep sadness over the loss of a young woman known for her dedication and kindness.

Investigators have asked the public for patience as they complete their inquiries.
