Prosecutors in Pavia announced on Wednesday that Andrea Sempio, a 37-year-old friend of Chiara Poggi’s younger brother Marco, killed the 26-year-old economics graduate alone on the morning of 13 August 2007. Previously, he had been accused of conspiracy to murder. Alberto Stasi, Poggi’s ex-boyfriend, has served 16 years for her murder.

The judge overseeing the Garlasco murder inquiry has ruled that “fingerprint 33” will not be included in the ongoing evidentiary hearing. The print, found on a wall inside the Poggi home, had previously been linked by investigators to Andrea Sempio, who is under fresh investigation for the 2007 murder of Chiara Poggi.

Alberto Stasi, 41, was granted partial day release on Friday as he nears the end of a 16-year prison sentence. He was convicted in 2015 of murdering his girlfriend, 26-year-old economics graduate Chiara Poggi, in Garlasco near Pavia in 2007.
