Tuscany airports closed 2025 with its strongest results on record, as almost 9.8 million passengers travelled through Florence and Pisa airports.

Toscana Aeroporti, which manages both facilities, said total passenger numbers rose by 8.4% compared with 2024. The results mark a record-breaking year for the group and confirm sustained growth in air travel to and from the region.

Florence’s Amerigo Vespucci Airport recorded its best year ever, handling 3.8 million passengers. Traffic increased by 9.4% year on year, driven primarily by international travel. International passengers rose by 12.2% and accounted for more than 87% of total traffic at Florence. This growth offset a decline in domestic travel, which fell by 6.4% compared with the previous year.

The most popular routes from Florence were Paris, London, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Munich. The airport’s busiest day was 7 September, when more than 15,100 passengers passed through the terminal.

Pisa’s Galileo Galilei Airport also posted record results in 2025, serving close to 6 million passengers. Traffic rose by 7.8% compared with 2024, with growth recorded in every month of the year. International traffic at Pisa increased by 6.3% and represented nearly three quarters of total passengers. Domestic traffic performed strongly, rising by 12.8% year on year.

The peak day at Pisa was 28 June, when more than 26,700 passengers transited through the airport. Cargo traffic remained broadly stable, with over 12,400 tonnes of goods and mail handled during the year, a slight fall of 4.1%.

Across both airports, Toscana Aeroporti exceeded one million passengers per month during the summer peak in June, July and August. December also set a new record, with around 610,000 passengers, up 7.8% year on year and the best December ever recorded.

The company said the figures confirm Tuscany’s growing appeal as a destination beyond the traditional high season.

Looking ahead, Toscana Aeroporti president Marco Carrai said the results underline the strategic role of the Tuscan airport system. He said 2026 will be a key year for turning passenger growth into lasting structural value.

Planned investments include the expansion of Pisa’s terminal and the implementation of Florence airport’s masterplan. The company said completing these projects is increasingly urgent to meet demand while ensuring efficiency, sustainability and positive impacts for the wider territory.
