Italy’s Fiumicino Airport has launched the country’s first in-terminal dog hotel, offering luxury accommodation and care.
Dog Relais is the first facility of its kind in any Italian airport. Located next to the long-term car park at Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci Airport, it provides boarding, daycare, and pampering for dogs while their owners travel.
Each dog hotel lodge includes a 4-square-metre indoor space and a 10-square-metre outdoor area. Both covered and uncovered zones are available. The lodges are made from high-quality wood and include air conditioning, automatic water dispensers, and even background music.
Daycare services are available for airport staff and local residents. Longer-term stays come with added options such as grooming, veterinary services, and video calls so owners can check in on their pets.
Prices start at €40 per night for one dog, or €50 for up to four small dogs. Premium options go up to €60 for exclusive services.
Dog Relais promises a “safe and stimulating” environment where pets can play, rest, and socialise while their owners are away.
This move comes as Italy expands pet-friendly air travel policies. Airlines can now allow larger dogs in the cabin, although fares and conditions are at each airline’s discretion.
