Russell Crowe, Hollywood actor, is set to make a special appearance as a guest in the 2024 instalment of Italy’s prestigious Sanremo Music Festival, as confirmed by organisers today.
Amadeus, the artistic director of Sanremo, shared the exciting news on ViviRai 2. He showed a video in which Crowe talked about his eagerness to perform on the festival’s third night, scheduled for Thursday 8th February.
Addressing the audience in Italian, Crowe reminisced about his initial performance with his band at the Sanremo festival in 2001.
The Oscar-winning actor and accomplished director is celebrated for his roles in blockbusters like Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind. He has also cultivated a parallel career in music spanning decades, encompassing genres from rock to folk and country.
Crowe, last summer, embarked on an Italian tour with his band, Indoor Garden Party, captivating audiences with concerts in various Italian cities, including Rome.
In 2022, the 59-year-old star was bestowed the title of ‘Rome’s ambassador in the world,’ acknowledging the unique connection he shares with the Eternal City.
Despite being born in New Zealand and spending much of his life in Australia, Crowe recently discovered his Italian heritage. Through a thorough search, he traced his roots to Ascoli Piceno in Italy’s Marche region, revealing the intriguing connection that his great great great grandfather, Luigi Ghezzi, had with Italy when he travelled to NZ in 1864.
