Gaza flotilla allegedly attacked by drone outside Tinisian port

Opposition demands action after Gaza Flotilla drone Incident

News

Opposition politicians pressed Premier Giorgia Meloni’s government to condemn an alleged drone attack on a Gaza aid flotilla.

The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) said one of its boats was struck by a drone near the Tunisian port of Sidi Bou Said. The Tunisian coast guard said it had not detected any drone.

Francesco Boccia, Senate whip for the centre-left Democratic Party (PD), called the alleged strike “shameful” and “illegal.” He urged swift condemnation from Italy and the European Union.

Former premier Giuseppe Conte, leader of the 5-Star Movement (M5S), also spoke out. Writing on social media, Conte said citizens engaged in humanitarian missions were being treated like terrorists, while “Netanyahu’s criminal government” was still considered an ally.

Conte demanded a total arms embargo, financial sanctions, and strong investigations. He said Meloni’s stance had placed Italy “on the wrong side of history.” Meloni had said she the Italian government would protect Italians aboard the Gaza flotilla.
