The town of Nardò in Puglia has reacted with relief after 27-year-old Tatiana Tramacere, missing for more than ten days, was found alive on Thursday night.

Carabinieri officers discovered her in the attic of a friend’s home in the province of Lecce. The case had drawn national attention amid fears she might have become a victim of femicide.

Police located Tramacere in a small attic room belonging to Dragos-Ioan Gheormescu, a 30-year-old Romanian national. He was the last person known to have seen her before she disappeared on 24 November.

RAI News reported that investigators have not yet determined whether she was held against her will or chose to stay there. Gheormescu had been detained for questioning. He was initially placed under investigation for incitement to suicide in connection with the disappearance. Prosecutors may consider additional charges depending on the outcome of the inquiry.

Tramacere had reportedly planned to travel to Brescia to meet an ex-boyfriend and had bought a bus ticket that she never used. Her family maintained throughout the search that she would not have left voluntarily.

Her father said the news brought “joy and relief” and described her return as “a beautiful moment, a Christmas present”. He praised the Carabinieri for their work in locating her.

Nardò mayor, Pippi Mellone, welcomed the outcome and said the town had endured “interminable days of anguish” during the search. He added that the local community was united in its relief at her safe recovery.

Police have not released further details but said the investigation will continue.
